Peek-a-boo
Hallelujah, tiny signs of spring! We've had a couple of false starts this month but the past week has been snowy again. We, however, were in Tennessee for spring break and missed the refreshing of our piles of snow. We have gone to the Washington DC area for the past few spring breaks and it's usually cool-ish. So this year we thought we would go south, so off to Chrysalis aka Janihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04931545552259309936noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2443750006695636111.post-51676706748498796422013-03-29T16:32:00.001-04:002013-03-29T16:32:20.413-04:00Good Friday

Well, it's been some time since I've posted and even longer since we've met a new butterfly. I alluded to the butterfly at the end of my last post so here it is. Today, meet the Rice Paper Butterfly, also known as the Paper Kite, the Wood Nymph, or the Large Tree Nymph butterfly. This one is a simple and elegant Chrysalis aka Janihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04931545552259309936noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2443750006695636111.post-27657655478144713362013-02-13T11:51:00.004-05:002013-02-13T11:51:45.114-05:00What Will They Think Of Next?
I've been pretty scarce lately as life has taken on new twists and turns. Hoping to have more time and concentration for The Butterfly Jungle soon, but I simply HAD to share this video with you. Check out this incredible new product that will completely blow every other bit of similar technology off the map. I'm not kidding.

And They Will Love You For It
Come and get it gals!
When we first moved into our big ol' farmhouse, we started feeding the birds. Mostly we put out a buffet for the Goldfinches, which are just so darn pretty. However, we soon learned that feeding the birds at our house meant, essentially, that it enabled our cat to hunt over bait. So we pulled down the feeders in an effort to save the Goldfinch population from Chrysalis aka Janihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04931545552259309936noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2443750006695636111.post-26764115027618775472013-01-06T16:57:00.000-05:002013-01-06T16:57:02.476-05:00Looking Back, Planning Ahead
Taken as a whole, 2012 was, without a doubt, the single most stressful year of my life, beginning even at the tail end of 2011. At times, things have even approached horrifying. I won't explain. But I have learned 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 well this year---

The kids from Sandy Hook Elementary school will not be going back to school until after the first of the year. When they do return, it will not be to the same school but to an unused school builing about 10 miles away. This is my office door. Even though is was easy-peasy drawing that bear, it was great fun. Just sittin' on a snow bank, blowin' bubbles snowflakes. And you thought snow came from the clouds.... silly butterflies. Check out the end of the post for an offer from Amy Kirkpatrick Art.
Sommerfugl- "summerfly". Norwegian for butterfly. Maybe it's "summer bird". At any rate, we're about butterflies today, naturally. Christmas butterflies, because, well- why not? Last year I took a leap of faith and, since it was my last Christmas working on that unit, decorated one of our trees just for me.

I haven't been around much. Sort of hacking my way through the jungle of life lately. Let me explain.
One year ago in November, I was suddenly faced with tremendous job insecurity. The unit at the hospital where I had worked for the past 20 years was closing (converting, really but I'll spare you the gory details) and my job was being eliminated. Sometime, but we didn't know Chrysalis aka Janihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04931545552259309936noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2443750006695636111.post-1143084268284533852012-10-24T06:00:00.000-04:002012-10-24T06:00:12.521-04:00Crock Pot Season ApproachesTomato, Basil & Parmesan Soup
Yes, that's right, it's coming. Crockpot Season, otherwise known to some people as Autumn. I just love my big red crock pot and use it pretty regularly in the cooler/colder seasons. I generally prefer not to have appliances sitting out on the counters- it's just a funny thing with me. This month's flower can get confusing. Just wanted to share a bit of paper play cutting that I did for my Zippy-Gal. It's not very fancy or complicated but it sure was fun to try. My Zippy-Kid is not really a flowers kind of girl so I'll probably do something more in step with her tastes, such as a Tardis, Minecraft, or tree-climbing theme.

Well, life has certainly been interesting around here the past few months. The past few weeks in particular have been, um... a surprise. Yes, I think that's mainly what we've all felt around here. Less than a month ago, my mom went to her physician because she was just so tired all the time. While my mom is considered a Senior Citizen, she certainly isn't "elderly". One of my nieces recently had a baby girl and she had the good sense to decorate the baby's nursery with a butterfly theme. Obviously my niece is not only a wonderful person but she has excellent taste as well. A fine young lady. Anyway, I knew immediately what I wanted to do for her and the baby.

Ah, the Aster, a wildflower native through-out the US, Europe, and Asia. September. Autumn. Chill in the air. The first whiffs of that crunchy dry leaf smell as you weed and work around in your late season garden, corralling the wild aster back with the borders of the bed. Well, guess I'm going to come out of the closet, err, Tardis, with this post but we are really stupid huge goofy Doctor Who geeks at my house. The Fandom runs deep around here. Eastern Screech Owls. My little night-time friends aren't very big- just 6 to 10 inches tall. They are red (rufus) or gray in coloring but either way they're just about impossible to see in the wild, even when perched at the opening of the tree cavity where they live.
